Accessibility Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026
What’s Up Summerland? is built to be usable by as many people as possible. Finding out what’s on in your community shouldn’t depend on how you browse the web, so we’ve made accessibility part of how the Site is designed and maintained.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the internationally recognized benchmark for accessible websites. We treat this as an ongoing goal rather than a one-time checkbox, and we review the Site as it grows.
What we’ve done
- Mobile-first design so the Site works well on phones, tablets and desktops, at different screen sizes and zoom levels.
- Keyboard navigation for interactive elements, so you can use the Site without a mouse.
- Semantic structure and headings that work with screen readers and other assistive technology.
- Readable text and colour contrast chosen for legibility.
- Descriptive text for images where images convey information.
- Reduced-motion support — if your device is set to reduce motion, the Site’s animations and scrolling effects are minimized automatically.
Known limitations
Some third-party content or user-submitted images may not yet fully meet our accessibility goals. We work to identify and fix these as we find them.
Give us feedback
If you run into a barrier using the Site, or you have a suggestion, we want to hear about it. Please contact us at info@whatsupsummerland.ca and describe the problem and the page it happened on. We’ll do our best to respond and to provide the information you need in an accessible way.
