Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026
What’s Up Summerland? (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through whatsupsummerland.ca (the “Site”), how we use and protect it, and your rights. We handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you submit an event, contact us, or ask to have a venue listed, you may provide your name, email address, and the details of your event or venue. If you’re a venue or organizer, this may include a contact name and business details you choose to share.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our servers and security provider automatically record basic technical information such as your device type, browser, approximate region, and the pages you visit. This helps us keep the Site secure and working properly. See our Cookie Policy for details.
We do not collect payment information through the Site, and we don’t ask for sensitive personal information.
How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- Publish and manage event and venue listings you submit;
- Respond to your messages and requests;
- Operate, secure, and improve the Site.
When you submit an event or venue listing for publication, please remember that the listing details you provide are intended to be shown publicly on the Site.
Consent
We collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent. By submitting information through the Site, you consent to us using it for the purposes described above. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us, subject to legal and practical limits (for example, we may need to keep certain records).
How we share information
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it except as follows:
- Service providers who help us run the Site — including our hosting provider (Web Hosting Canada) and our security/content-delivery provider (Cloudflare) — process information on our behalf and only as needed to provide their services.
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety, rights, or property of the community, our users, or us.
Where your information is processed
The Site is hosted in Canada. Some service providers (such as our security/content-delivery provider) may process technical information on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. Where that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of those countries. We choose reputable providers and share only what’s necessary.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Event listings for past events may be removed or archived over time. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, including secure hosting and encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Links to other sites
The Site links to venue websites, community pages, and other third parties. We’re not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. Please review their policies.
Children’s privacy
The Site is a general-audience community resource and isn’t directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we’ll remove it.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct information that’s inaccurate or incomplete;
- Withdraw consent to our use of your information (subject to legal/practical limits).
To make a request, contact us at info@whatsupsummerland.ca. We may need to verify your identity before acting.
